Do you want your hair to always be vibrant, shiny and healthy, like a freshly done salon haircut? As a hairdresser, I see every day what wonders proper care can do. Many people think that this requires expensive treatments or complicated routines, but the secret often lies in small but consistent steps.
In this post, I'll share with you 5 essential tips to achieve salon-quality hair at home. I use these practices myself, and I guarantee that if you incorporate them into your daily routine, your hair will thank you!
1. Know your hair type – this is the basics!
The most common mistake I see is people using the wrong product for their hair. It's useless to use the most expensive shampoo if you use something meant for oily hair on dry, split ends, or vice versa.
Oily hair: It gets oily easily and often flattens at the roots. Look for light, cleansing shampoos and avoid conditioners that are too thick and oily at the roots.
Dry/Broken Hair: Dull, brittle, breaks easily. Moisturizing, nourishing shampoos and conditioners are essential for them. Don't forget about intensive masks!
Colored hair: Requires special care! Use products for colored hair that help maintain the vibrancy of the color and protect the hair from fading.
My tip: If you are unsure, come to Tincsfodrász Kellékek and ask for help from our expert colleague! We will be happy to help you choose the products that best suit your hair. (CTA: Visit our store in Salgótarján, or browse our professional products in our webshop! )
2. Don't wash too often!
I know this may sound strange to many, but over-washing your hair can be harmful! Frequent washing removes natural oils from your hair, which can cause your scalp to produce even more oil – it’s a vicious cycle.
Ideal frequency: Try to reduce your hair washing to 2-3 times a week.
How to get used to it? You can start by using dry shampoo between washes, it will help keep your hair roots fresh. Over time, your scalp will adapt and produce less oil.
The "Gentle Touch" rule: When washing your hair, gently massage your scalp with your fingertips, do not rub hard! Apply conditioner and mask only to the lengths and ends of your hair, avoid the scalp if it is prone to oiliness.
My tip: Among Kallos ' products you will find gentle but effective shampoos that do not dry out your hair and scalp even with frequent use.
3. Drying and styling gently!
Heat is your hair's worst enemy! While blow dryers and heat styling tools are essential, improper use can damage your hair.
Heat protection spray: Never start blow-drying or ironing without a heat protection spray! This creates a protective layer on the hair shaft, minimizing damage.
Drying: First, blot excess water from your hair with a towel – never rub! Start on a lower heat setting and gradually increase if necessary. Hold the hairdryer at least 15-20 cm away from your hair.
Heat styling: Only use the iron or curling iron on completely dry hair, at the lowest temperature that is still effective. Don't hold it in one place for too long!
My tip: Schwarzkopf and Young's professional heat protection sprays provide excellent protection while also caring for the hair.
4. Regular cutting – against fragmentation!
It may go against logic if you want long hair, but getting regular haircuts is essential for healthy hair.
Why is it important? Hair ends start to split over time. If left untreated, the split ends will continue to grow up the hair shaft, resulting in weak, brittle hair. Regular trimming helps to maintain hair strength and shine.
Frequency: It's a good idea to trim a minimum amount of hair every 6-8 weeks. This doesn't hinder hair growth, and in fact, it makes it look optically fuller and healthier!
5. Nourish yourself from the inside and out!
Healthy hair is not just about external care, but also about what you put into your body.
Internal nutrition: Drink plenty of water! Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (fish, nuts), B vitamins and zinc (e.g. legumes, whole grains) all contribute to hair health.
External nourishment: Use a hair mask or conditioner at least once a week! This provides extra hydration and nourishment to the hair strands. Hair oils (e.g. argan oil, coconut oil) also work wonders on dry, split ends.
My tip: Experiment with hair masks from Hs Milano or Berrywell and find the one that works best for your hair. You'll see the difference!
Achieving healthy and shiny hair is not a magic trick, it's patience and consistent use of the right products. I hope these hair styling tips help you keep your hair as healthy as possible.
